People Have Died on this Walk

19. November 2019

Because we knew that it gets rather hot on the Loop Walk in Kalbarri NP and that this could become quite dangerous, we got up at 5.30am to start the walk shortly before 7am. We also carried seven liters of waters as this was the recommendation by the park authorities. In the end it happened to be one of the cooler days and we carried three liters back.

The walk itself is 8km long and it takes about 3-5 hours and a bit of fitness to complete it. The path starts at Nature’s Window, then follows the rim, before it goes down into the valley and along the Murchison River. The hike was absolutely stunning and funny enough we exclusively met Swiss couples on this hike. We did most of the hike with Dominique and Stephanie and had such a good time, that we also spent the following days with them.

After making it safely back to the nature’s window, we realized that we were in driving distance to Perth and that this window was one of the highlights. Because a huge group of Chinese arrived and lined up to take their perfect WeChat Selfie.

We also checked out the Z-Bend lookout and when we were back on the campsite we spotted a blue tonged Bobtail Lizard. What a fascinating creature. Its tail looked almost like its head and the blue tongue was simply cool. It was a great end to a great day.

Find London Bridge at Island Rock

Not far from Kalbarri NP there is a place called Island Rock. The coastline looks similar to the one at the Great Ocean Road and there is even a stack that looks a bit like the London Bridge – definitely worth a visit.
