    Foodies in Lima

    Day 1-3: Lima
Lima is an enormous city enthroned high above the cliffs with his 43 districts and almost 10 million inhabitants. It is considered the food capital of Latin America and therefore you have to try some of its specialties. Two of them are Ceviche and Chaufa Republicano. Ceviche serves as the connection to the fisherman village it once was and Chaufa Republicano represents the African and Chinese influence on the city.

    Peru

    Amazon River

    Day 4-6: Iquitos
Iquitos sits right in the Amazon jungle and the only way to get there is by plane. This gigantic river is the life source of countless animals and plants. There are piranhas and paichas, sloths and anacondas, pink river dolphins and caimans. And this is just a selection.

    Peru

    Penguin Mania

    Day 7: Islas Ballestas
This island carries the nickname “Galapagos for the poor” but it is so rich in wildlife. There are seals, giant sea lions, Peruvian boobies, crabs, giant red jelly fishes and mountains full of cormorants. And in case you are lucky you will also see an entire group of Humboldt penguins jumping right into the water.

    Peru

    Sanddune Boarding

    Day 8-9: Oasis of Huacachina
It is a real oasis, ok it was. Without artificial water supply it would be as dry as the desert surrounding it. But sand isn’t so bad. You can cruise around with quads, go on a sand buggy tour into the sunset and even go sand boarding with real snowboards.

    Peru

    Flying over

    Day 10: Nazca
The Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture by scrapping off the red top soil to expose the yellow sub soil. Most scientists believe that they did so to worship their gods. And some believe that they are connected to star constellations. And to properly see them you have to enter a small shaky plane.

    Peru

    Colonial Beauty

    Day 11-12: Arequipa
Arequipa is full of beautiful colonial buildings and surrounded by three gigantic volcanoes. And then there is this city within a city – the Monasteria Santa Catelina.

    Peru

    Best Andean Food

    Day 13 & 16: Cusco
The beauty of Cusco is simply striking. It was once the capital of the Inca Empire whose remains are still visible. In addition, there are many buildings from the Spanish colonial times. It is a city that is simply made to walk around for one or two days, eat Peruvian delicacies and inhale the atmosphere.

    Peru

    Climbing Machu Picchu

Day 14-15: Aguas Calientes & Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is probably the main attraction of Peru and one of the absolute main attractions of Latin America. And because of its prominence it is also quite expensive to travel to. But there is a way around it.

    Peru

    Jungle Highlights

    Day 17-21: Puerto Maldonado
Puerto Maldonado is in the southern Amazon region of Peru and right next to Bolivia and Brazil. There is Lake Sandoval with its famous giant otters and sometimes red howler monkeys. And then there is the Tambopata Reserve with its claylicks so full of colorful macaws and parrots that you fear to turn colorblind.

    Peru

    The highest Lake

Day 22-23: Puno & Titicaca Lake
With it’s 3’800m it is the highest navigable lake of the world and about 16 times as big as the Lake Constance. There are artificial floating islands and real ones to explore. And while the floating ones are quite touristic the real ones offer you a great insight into the lives of the southern Peruvians.
