Right into the Jungle

10. December 2018

After strolling around in picturesque Cuzco for a last afternoon and an Alpaca filet for dinner we took our flight to Puerto Maldonado the next morning.

Cuzco can be quite warm during the day but to go out at night we had to put on our Alpaca Pullovers and a jacket. But when we arrived in Puerto Maldonado after a 30 minutes flight in shorts and T-shirt we started to sweat like hell. And when we drove to our jungle lodge we realized once more how diverse Peru is. We had already been to the metropolis of Lima, the desert of Huacachina and Nazca, the colonial cities of Arequipa and Cusco right in the Andes, the high coastal rain forest of Machu Picchu, the northern Amazon region of Iquitos and now the southern Amazon region of Puerto Maldonado.

Our bungalow was right at the river and Roland and his family did an outstanding job. Not only did they prepare all sorts of local delicacies for us, Roland also helped us to organize all our trips. To start it off he took us to a bird watching trip before sunset. But before we could even leave for this first trip a family of Tamarin monkeys showed up in the trees in between the main building and our bungalow. We had never seen these monkeys before and were immediately taken by their adorable appearance. Later on the lookout tower we were impressed by how Roland managed to identify all sorts of birds simply by their call. And he showed us Macaws, Parrots and Parakeets while they were flying by.
