Garden route – a paradise for foodies

13. June 2018

Besides offering a beautiful coastline and with some luck even a glimpse of a whale the garden route is absolute heaven for every food lover. As we already mentioned we enjoyed some fantastic sushi and poke in Port Elizabeth, but that was just the beginning. We enjoyed some great ostrich filet at an ostrich farm, outstanding pasta in Mossel Bay, great seafood at Cap Agulhas and some outstanding dried aged beef in Hermanus. It all comes with some world class South African wine and it costs you just a fraction of the price you would pay in Switzerland.

And to reduce the risk of changing our body shapes into the one of a whale we also practiced some sports. We went running at the beautiful beach of Sedgefield and even did quite an intense workout there. We also learned a lot about the ostrichs and even fed them with our bare hands before we enjoyed their delicious meat – sorry… And we climbed to the top of the lighthouse at Cap Agulhas to see how the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean meet each other.

Besides offering fantastic food, the service at the restaurants is also excellent. But this seems to be a general thing at the garden route as also the service in all the guesthouses we stayed was fantastic. We stayed in beautiful rooms, sometimes entire apartments, received advise for places to go and things to see and always felt absolutely welcome.
