Forgotten and Reborn

4. January 2019

Our experience from the previous day had already been bad, but what happened the next day even topped it. We got up early as we had booked an early morning trip to the Valle des Artesan but nobody came to pick us up. When we called the tour agency they could only tell us that the tour operator had forgotten us, but not why. We had quite an intense discussion with them later that day and after about two hours we received our money back for the missed tour and we received a free airport transfer for the unpleasant experience with the Laguna Baltinache.

After these bad experiences we were close to cancel the stargazing tour we had booked for the evening. But we were so glad that we didn’t as it turned out to be a fantastic experience. Thanks to its dryness and some other factors, the area around San Pedro de Atacama is home to the three biggest telescopes in the world. One of them is called ALMA and observes the dark parts of the universe.

We learned all that on the tour and also had the pleasure to observe the sky with our eyes and identify stars, star constellations, galaxies and planets with the help of a sky map. We found the Southern Cross, Orion’s belt, Mars and many more. Further on we could observe the impressive Chilean sky with telescopes and learned how to take photos with our camera.

It was a fantastic experience and  made the whole trip to San Pedro de Atacama worth it.

Aw, this was a really nice post. In thought I want to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and precise effort to make a very good article… however what can I say… I procrastinate alot and certainly not appear to get one thing done.
