The biggest sand island in the world

16. April 2019

Fraser Island is a must see when in Australia. It is a place like no other and one day is barely enough to explore it all. In the inland there is the rainforest and the perfectly white beaches of Lake McKenzie and Lake Birabin. And at the east coast there is the picturesque SS Maheno Shipwreck, Eli’s Creek, the colored sands and so much more.

As we were four people we decided against a tour and organized our 2-day trip instead individually. We rented a 4×4 and booked a night at the Kingfisher Bay Resort. We followed our own itinerary and had the fun to drive ourselves through the deep sand in the center of the island and on the highway-like beach.

On our first day we went floating at Eli’s Creek, visited the SS Maheno Shipwreck and the colored sands and enjoyed the sunset and dinner at the Kingfisher Bay Resort. On the second day we explored the inner of the island. We relaxed on the white beach of Lake McKenzie, walked through the rainforest at Central Station and went swimming at Lake Birabin before we returned to the mainland.
