The coastline from Cairns all the way up to Cape Tribulation is full of pristine beaches, beautiful rain forest and impressive waterfalls. Mossman Gorge with its well-prepared boardwalk and the impressive Barren Falls and Josephine falls are just three activities to mention. Keep in mind that there is no bridge and you therefore have to take a car ferry to reach the cape.
After picking up my parents from the airport and helping them receiving their rental camper we spent our first night with Tony on a campsite in Port Douglas and were impressed by his confines.
We somehow managed to do almost the entire walk in Mossman Gorge without rain but spent our entire time at Cape Tribulation in the rain. But all this rain made the rain forest even more authentic and when we drove on the curvy road up to the cape and the water was flowing everywhere, we felt as we were in the middle of Jurassic Park.
The tour with the Army Duck through the rain forest close to Kuranda was very informative and the Barren Falls and the Josephine Falls simply impressive. But what fascinated us most was the sight of two Cassowaries on our way back from the cape. They were walking on the side of the road and we first thought they were dogs. But then we recognized those colorful big bird with their strange appearance and starred at them as long as we could before we continued our trip.
